Monthly Archives: February 2011

So, if you follow me on Twitter, you probably read that I am participating in an event called ‘The 25 Campaign.’ I haven’t posted about anything like that before so it might have seemed a bit confusing. Because of this, I figured it would be best to try to explain where it is coming from.

It started back when I was a freshman in high school. I was quite the little religious one. I actually used to want to be a missionary. I loved the idea of helping people. I loved the idea of loving people. What made me change my mind by junior year was the idea of attaching myself to a specific belief system. While I don’t think there is anything wrong with the way others do their “mission work,” I felt it wasn’t the best way for me. I wanted to be able to travel the world and try to assist however I could, in my own way. I just want to love others and let that open the door to other conversation if it is meant to happen. I want to help meet the basic needs for survival and health. In helping them live better physically, I will be showing them love. Love from strangers can be so overwhelmingly good. My hope is that my love will encourage others to seek out a better way of living, be it physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.

Fast forward eleven years.

I sat in Starbucks while my cute boyfriend worked his shift. It was a breezy but warm morning for February. I was all smiles and excited about accomplishing a lot in my next 7 hours. What did I do first? Well, I checked Facebook and Twitter, of course. (ha ha)

One of the first things I saw was a link to a PETA video, which I watched. I sat for the next few minutes shocked and crying at the animal cruelty I just witnessed. I started thinking about what I could do to make changes to stop this from happening. Then, I felt a pang of guilt as I was reacquainted with little junior Erin. She reminded me about my plan for helping people. I realized that it was finally time to do something else besides sitting in a Starbucks reading and watching videos about what is happening around me.

As I was closing out some windows on the good ol’ macbook, I noticed a friend had posted a link for a video to my Facebook wall. That video was for The 25 Campaign. If I didn’t notice God throwing that sign, I’d be worried for myself! ;)

I feel like the video explains enough for you to gain a basic understanding of its purpose. I encourage you to watch the video for The 25 Campaign. I am participating. I will be raising funds until April 25th and then will remain silent for 25 hours. The silence represents the 25 years (!!) that the people (mainly children) in the surrounding areas of the Congo have been tormented by the Lord’s Rebel Army.

I still want to travel the world. I still want to help everyone I can. However, I have my own issues. I have debt to pay off before I can get a passport and (as hopeful as I am) I know that just won’t happen anytime soon. So, I am trying to do my small part from where I stand in Missouri. The most important thing is that I do choose to stand, because there are so many others who cannot. They cannot for themselves, nor for their neighbor. It’s heartbreaking to me.

So, if you feel called to do so, you can participate here . I will also be accepting donations until April 25 here. You can donate how little or large an amount you feel is necessary. Every participant’s goal is just $25. I plan on donating about that much.

Invisible Children is the incredible group behind the campaign and are doing so many other great things.

Thank you for reading. I know it was a little more personal and serious than usual and it meant a lot. This has been on my heart for about a week now and really felt the need to share.

Ever since we walked out of the house we are attempting to buy for the first time, we have been dreaming and scheming how we want to turn this house into our home. We decided on a general theme for each room, which we wanted to make sure we could love for a long time. From there, we haven’t decided much. I think a lot will play into what we already have and what we find in the weeks after we move. However, this has not stopped me from looking around online for some ideas. :)

I have a running list of ideas I started compiling when I was in high school. Some are, of course, outdated and nothing like what my style is now. There are a few I have held onto. I also have a folder on my desktop for photo inspiration. Here are a few favorites:

My sister kicked off the decor search by sending me an email filled with photos! That is where some of these come from. The rest came from Apartment Therapy, The Inspired Room, and Design*Sponge. :)

AH! I am so excited!! I want to decorate everything right now. I guess step one should be actually getting the house. ;)

I hope your weekend has been great. I am enjoying the beautiful weather we are currently having in Missouri. Spring weather, please stay!

So, I couldn’t go into the weekend without sharing this photo. When this was taken, the little one was only 5 days old. Isn’t that just adorable?? I had so much fun with this family.

I can’t get enough of this session. I will share more soon. Until then, have a beautiful weekend and enjoy some family time. :)

Happy Friday, dear friends!

I thought I would stop in and share some old photos I stumbled upon this morning from a while back. It is an Alice in Wonderland inspired shoot. I was TweedleDee (look at how different I look!!). My friend Mackenzie took these. She is incredibly talented and I miss her so. We used to do stuff like this all the time… just because. I really need to be a part of a shoot like this again, whether it means I am in front of or behind the camera.

So, I realize that this is the third post in a row that has included photos of myself. I am not usually this vain. I just really enjoy photos and am amazed at others’ abilities to make me look as beautiful as they do. Yes, you read that right. I called myself beautiful. I promise it isn’t against the law. haha

So, maybe you should try calling yourself beautiful. I think every girl should tell herself that. Because every girl is. :)

On that note, have a wonderful afternoon. I am planning to!!

I know, I know. I said I would be back yesterday. I have an excuse, though!! The boyfriend and I went to look at a house yesterday and fell in love. We are crossing fingers and saying prayers that all goes well. :)

These photos give me warm fuzzies. Try to find something to make you feel warm on this blistery cold day. :)

(All photos taken by my lovely friends, Josh and Amber Ulmer.)

In celebration of Will’s birthday, he and I visited dear friends of ours in Nashville last month. It was full of happiness, as Alec and Mackenzie joined in on the fun for a couple days. Those few days we spent in that city will forever stay with me. In some ways, I feel it influenced me to make some really big changes in my life (or at least helped push me to make the changes I only talked about until recently). We also found incredible friends in Josh and Amber. They are amazing people and fantastic photographers. We were lucky enough that they were happy to do a photo session with us. We have only had photos taken of us professionally one other time in the 3 years that we have been together so this was exciting for us!

Now, I am going to pull the crazy blogger move and post 100 bazillion photos because… well… the Ulmers did such a great job photographing us that I could not choose between my favorites (Yes, there are that many favorites.). If any of you have wondered what Will and I were like “in real life,” looking through these photos should help answer that. :)

So, without further ado…

I love Will so, so much. He has really been the second biggest reason (the first being the Lord) for why I am still standing tall after the last few years. He loves me unconditionally and it is amazing to know that he stands by me through everything. Josh and Amber not only saw that in us, but captured it in a way we can look back on it years from now. They have an amazing gift and use it in such a beautiful way. I am so proud to call them very dear friends of mine and am tremendously grateful for their love, hospitality, and insight they gave us while we visited them.

If you don’t already follow them, FOLLOW THEM. They are not only great photographers, but they are husband & wife. They are parents. They are funny. They are crafty. The will brighten your days. :)

If you enjoyed these, please keep your eyes peeled for the second half of my favorites. I will post them tomorrow. I hope you have a super afternoon! I get to spend it snuggling under blankets watching the snow fall again. :)
